Growing up as a hardcore surfer, it was a dream come true when Avelino
Bastos, founder and partner of Tropical Brasil, one of the most traditional
brazilian surfing companies, invited me to create and develop their print
ads for the 1997/1998 pubs.
The results were so good that we decided to continue the partnership,
with the 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005 and 2007 campaigns (the last one
celebrating their 25th anniversary) .
Through all these years, the tagline and strategy remained the same,
with the work exploring, from different angles, the "We know surfing"
statement. A direct result from their love for the sport and also from being
pioneers in a category now swamped with newcomers every day.
This knowlegde about the mind of a surfer resulted in breakthrough
work in the category, winning the public's confidence and accolades
from specialized publications.
Up to this day, Avelino still manages his working schedule based on
tides and swell forecasts. Pretty cool company and an amazing lifestyle.
